Celebrating 70 Years

From student to teacher to owner, Miss Sharon has dedicated her life to educating and inspiring young dancers. As we begin our 70th season at the Joy School of Dance, we would like to congratulate Miss Sharon as she steps into the new role of Artistic Director and introduce the next generation of owners, Miss Bethany, Miss Brittany, Miss Caite, Miss Gretchen and Miss Casey.

For almost 70 years we have welcomed the privilege of teaching young people the “joy” of dance. The goals we set for our students include knowledge of dance technique and style, muscle control, body development, improvement of rhythm and timing, music appreciation, and an attuned respect for the arts. Studying a performing art places our students on a path of self-discipline and self-discovery that will carry them through many lifetime challenges with greater ease. The dedication and determination needed to master skills will boost their self-confidence and teach responsibility.

At the Joy School we have gathered a stellar faculty to bring out the “star” in each student. With decades of dance experience beginning at the Joy School and continuing with classes at Point Park University, the International Ballet Theatre and numerous dance seminars and workshops, many years teaching dance, a degree in education, and two children of her own, our Artistic Director, Miss Sharon personifies the Joy School tradition of excellence. The average stay of our students is from toddler to teen and beyond. Students most often graduate to the Advanced Company and the Elite Company.

Our students happiness and positive self-images are essential to their growth as individuals. We believe the most certain element of success is a positive mental attitude and we encourage this verbally and with the use of achievement charts, picture pages, and stickers.
